Write your own sustainability story with your organisation
For more and more companies, sustainability is no longer a casual choice, but a core part of their strategy. Whether you are just starting out in corporate social responsibility (CSR), working on a sustainability strategy, or are required to report under the CSRD, your donations can be more than a one-off contribution.
At OVWB, we help you strategically integrate philanthropy into your sustainability policy. This way, you not only make a tangible difference for children in vulnerable situations, but also strengthen the social value and future-proofing of your organisation. What does that mean in concrete terms?
By structurally embedding your donations in your ESG and sustainability strategy, you show how your organisation creates social impact. This helps you to be stronger in your CSR policy and reporting, and inspires stakeholders, customers and employees.
Philanthropy as a starting point for sustainable impact
Donating shows social commitment, but can also be the first step towards a broader sustainability strategy. More and more companies are required to report transparently on their social impact.
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires large companies to show how they contribute to environmental (E), social impact (S) and good governance (G) - the ESG principles. Philanthropic initiatives have the greatest impact when they are structurally embedded in a sustainability strategy and not seen as isolated actions.
How do you tackle that?
Integrating philanthropy into your sustainability strategy does not have to be complex. Three simple steps will ensure that your donations have a strategic and measurable impact.
1. Formulate your "Why"
Every organisation has a reason to support certain social initiatives. The key to sustainable integration lies in demand:
- Why do we support these projects?
- What core values and strategic objectives of our organisation are reflected in it?
- How does this align with the impact we want to make as a company?
By clearly articulating this "Why", philanthropy becomes a conscious choice and not just a casual donation.
2. Make the link to ESG and sustainability
A donation is not just a financial contribution, but can be part of a broader ESG story. Assess the impact within the three ESG pillars:
- Environment (E): Does your donation have a link to circular economy, waste reduction or sustainable consumption? For example, reusing laptops in educational courses contributes to the circular economy.
- Social impact (S): Does your support contribute to inclusion, equal opportunities or community development? For example, investing in school meals not only improves children's health but also increases their chances of getting an education.
- Good governance (G): Does your donation support ethical business behaviour or strategic partnerships? For example, structural collaboration with civil society organisations shows long-term vision and transparency.
By explicitly naming these links, you can integrate philanthropy into your sustainability reporting and stakeholder communication.
3. Embed it in your strategy
Philanthropy can be structurally embedded in your organisation's operations, without putting extra pressure on day-to-day activities. Think about:
- Long-term partnerships rather than one-off donations.
- Engage employees, e.g. through volunteering or fundraising events that can also be organised through OVWB.
- Transparent reporting on impact, both internally and externally.
By following these three steps, philanthropy becomes not only a means of creating social impact, but also a strategic choice that contributes to a stronger, future-proof organisation.
